It all happened so fast. Of course I was holding the baby, so my hands weren’t free. #4 had a bottle of water and #3 wanted a drink. #4 was enjoying this little moment of power and planned on making the most of it. She refused to share with #3. #3 took matters into her own hands and ripped the bottle out of #4’s hands, causing rage baby mode to kick in. #4 let out a blood curdling scream, started kicking #3, and water was flying everywhere. I quickly set the baby on the floor and dragged #4 out of the room while she proceeded to yell, “You are a rudey pants mom!” I wanted to leave the school and never show my face again but I had to go back into the room and collect the rest of my kids. Major Friendship Party fail.
It’s moments like these that make me want to throw my hands in the air & yell, “Oy with the parenting already!” If you are anything like me you start to question if you have what it takes to be the parent your kid(s) need. My mind quickly began thinking about all the things that I got wrong this week and I began to let this event determine my value as a parent. Clearly this wasn’t my finest moment, but it was just that, a moment. I had to remind myself that I couldn' let a single moment, good or bad, define me as a parent. So I took a deep breath, doled out consequences, and treated myself to a macaron. I sat down and reminded myself for the millionth time since becoming a parent, “God gave YOU these children. You will make mistakes but YOU are the parent that God knew they needed.” Friends, I don’t know where you are in your parenting journey (if you are even on one) but give yourself some grace and rest in the fact that you were chosen for this!
