Bloom Where You Are Planted

I’ve walked by this wall at least a dozen times in the past few months. I have never noticed the greenery in the bricks but today it stopped me in my tracks. I love how God gets my attention using the smallest things and knows how to speak right to my heart. I set down all my stuff on the sidewalk, crouched down and took a photo as several people passing by were looking at me suspect.

When saw these plants, I saw willingness, persistence, and purpose. A plant is suppose to grow, that is it’s purpose. I have whatever the opposite of a green thumb is, but I do know that plants tend to thrive when they have the right conditions such as proper sunlight, water, and soil. I could be wrong but these plants don’t appear to have all the ingredients for success. I can’t imagine there is much soil inside this brick wall but this little plant was determined to grow where it was, despite the conditions.

There is something beautiful about the unexpected. These plants reminded me that there is life even in what appears to be the deadest places. All it takes is a little light, a glimmer of hope, and life can come forth.

I don’t know about you but so often I want the perfect conditions before I live purposefully where God has me. Today I was reminded to choose NOW. To be who God created me to be, where I am, instead of where I expected or wanted to be. I know in that, new life will happen and it will be unexpected, but it will be beautiful. Who knows, it may even stop others and allow God to use it to speak to someone else, just like He spoke to me.
